Up for sale is a stunning and rare Yamaha Bex4 semi-hollow hybrid bass in the highly sought-after Amber Orange finish. Produced in May 2000 (Serial: QL12017), this instrument is a true collector’s piece that combines classic aesthetics with modern versatility.
Condition & History:
This bass has been a dedicated studio instrument kept in a strictly smoke-free environment. It has been used live only about 10 times and has been handled with extreme care. Cosmetic Condition: Near Mint / Excellent. There are a few very minor surface scratches in the clear coat, but they are practically invisible unless held at a specific angle under direct light. Electronics: 100% functional. The hybrid system (magnetic humbucker + bridge piezo) works perfectly, offering a massive range of tones from woody upright vibes to punchy rock.
Frets & Playability: The frets show zero wear. The bass has been exclusively strung with flatwounds, preserving the fretboard perfectly.
Modifications/Issues: The plastic truss rod cover is missing (an easy part to replace or leave as-is for a "pro" look). Otherwise, the bass is all original.
Premium Setup:
The instrument is currently strung with a fresh set of Thomastik-Infeld JF344 Flatwounds. These strings are legendary for their smooth feel and deep, organic tone, perfectly complementing the semi-hollow body of the BEX4.
The "Billy Sheehan" Connection:
This particular bass carries a piece of music history. It was hand-signed by the legendary Billy Sheehan during his masterclass in Riga, Latvia, on September 2nd, 2008. The signature is clear and adds a unique provenance to an already rare instrument.
